Located in Guangdong Province, this food production factory draws inspiration from the region’s vernacular architecture—clusters of small village-like buildings enclosed within protective brick walls.

Echoing the historic settlements found across Zhanjiang, where red soil shapes both the land and built forms, the factory’s design reinterprets this context into a contemporary industrial space. The structure is conceived as a fortress-like structure, with a perimeter of red brick walls that house public circulation, defining and sheltering the large production spaces while maintaining a strong visual and material connection to its surroundings. At one corner, the enclosure opens to reveal a public plaza, creating a welcoming gesture that invites interaction with the community. The plaza serves as a space for social engagement, contrasting with the fortress-like walls and providing a point of entry that softens the transition from private to public.
